Longfellow Middle School participated in a school-wide Service Learning Day, connecting academic coursework with community service.
Sixth-graders made sensory toys for Autism United–including sensory bottles, fidget sticks, and slider snakes–to help individuals with autism regulate their sensory systems, reduce anxiety, and improve focus.
Seventh-graders upcycled plastic bags into plastic yarn for Mercy Mats West Allis, which uses the plarn to make mats for people who are homeless or don’t have a mattress to sleep on. The mats provide a more comfortable, easy-to-clean, and water-resistant cushion for those in need.
Eighth-graders made dog toys for the Wisconsin Humane Society by cutting, braiding, and repurposing recycled T-shirts, providing enrichment for shelter dogs.
