Fifteen teams of elementary and middle school students represented the Wauwatosa School District at the Wisconsin Destination Imagination (WIDI) Affiliate Tournament on Saturday, April 6. Among them, five WSD teams were awarded medals and have qualified for the DI Global Finals.
“Not Ready” from Longfellow Middle School claimed 1st place in the Improv Category, while “The Uncrustables” from Longfellow secured 2nd place in the same category. Additionally, “Taco Cat Goat Cheese People” from Wilson Elementary School/WSTEM, “The Slay Squirrels Play the Octopus in Chess” from Longfellow, and ElMeTayBelle from Longfellow earned 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in the Scientific Challenge.
Both the “Not Ready” and “ElMeTayBelle” teams placed 1st in the Instant Challenge for their respective categories, further highlighting their innovation, quick thinking, and teamwork.
As a result of their success at the state level, these five teams have earned an invitation to compete at the DI Global Finals in Kansas City this May, where they will face teams from across the globe.
“The success of our Wauwatosa School District teams at the state tournament is a testament to the talent, creativity, and commitment of our students and educators,” said Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent of the Wauwatosa School District. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the teams and wish continued success to those competing at the Global Finals.”
